Group Fitness

Do you enjoy group fitness sessions? Like Marmite, this seems to be a love it or hate it concept. While for some people, group fitness sessions are the only way to workout out, for others it is the last thing they would want.

For solitary activities like running, biking, or swimming, working alone is part of the appeal for some people - they enjoy the time alone, the chance to be quiet, focusing on the workout, their brain chilling as the miles slip by.

However, if you are one of the many who loves group fitness sessions, hours working out alone sounds like pure torture.

Fans of group fitness find many reasons why they prefer working out with other people. These typically include:

Companionship: Humans are social animals, and most of us are happier when we are around other people. Working out with others, whether in a class, or as part of a club, is a natural for most people.

Motivation: While the long distance runners may be able to push themselves when they work out alone, most of us need to have others around in order for us to work hard. Comparing our efforts to what other people is doing is a great motivator, and typically results in a better, more effective workout.

So whether it's an exercise class or a run with a local club, enjoy it in the knowledge that it's not only natural to be with other people, but it will also result in a better workout.
